I'm 28 years old and I've ALWAYS had an undeniable interest in graphic arts. As corny as it sounds, I truly believe this is my calling and I want to go to school, but I have a part-time job, a 2 year old, only a high school diploma, no experience/knowledge with any graphic software and of course extremely, limited funds... and oh not to mention I'm almost freakin 30 years old! So I've looked at a number of schools and I'm thinking online is more ideal for my situation. Still out of the many online programs I've discovered; the two that I've heard of are extremely expensive (I'm talking a luxury car expensive!) and I want to go to a school thats accredited of course.... Also I've talked to a few people in the field and many of them have agreed that all you really need for an entry level position is skill/knowledge in graphic software and a portfolio. Well after reviewing quiet a few design schools, many of them offer certificate/degree programs... so would it truly be necessary to obtain a degree or could I find a job with just a degree/certificate? Also would it be worth going back to school for graphic design at 30 years old? Would someone really hire a 30 year old out of college without any experience?
