Agreed. I'm an undergraduate, but MBAs are pretty expensive. You might not even need one, and may be able to advance at around the same rate.
People usually pursue them if they're looking to switch careers, or they can't advance in their current position without one. For a lot of government or IR positions, there isn't a huge concentration of them, although you might find a few in the World Bank.
Check if a lot of your coworkers and colleagues have them, including your boss or people where you'd like to work.
