I have some ideas about how to market my company on the web. I am a exec level tech, and a slightly lower level marketing position opened up. I think I might be able to take this job at the same base plus some performance based pay (incentive, upside, whatever you want to call it). Is this a smart career move?

Should I move from straight tech to internet marketing?

I personally think that the marketing folks were born to do that, as were the techs. Be sure that it is what you want, not that you are just looking for a change. Are you happy being on the phone all day? Going to networking events and pressing the flesh?
I have never met anybody who successfully went from tech to sales, but hey, why not! That having been said, the devil you know is better than the devil you dont.
