I am enterprise software developer. I want to switch gears and want to get into more client facing / more customer interaction kind of roles.. Any ideas are welcome.. Cannot travel too much.

What skills shoud I have to get into Technical/Enterprise Marketing

Look at taking some marketing courses with a possible end result of a marketing MA. I would guess you are an engineer, BS. The combination is excellent for product management a position which seems to be the fast track in software companies for Director of Marketing, VP Marketing.

An organization where there is "church and state" between software engineers and customers is probably large enough and set enough in its ways where this switch is unlikely to happen (assuming you've told your boss and others that you WANT this to happen - which is the first step - and they've haven't made it easy for you to do so).
If you have progressive and in-demand technical skills you should be able to kick off a job search process to look for a company where you'll have the opportunity to do what you want.
I'd recommend looking at a smaller organization where there are fewer humans sitting between the customer and developers as an interim step.
You could also find a role working in a "services" organization or in product management where they can continue to leverage your technical skills as you move over to the business side.
The transition will be easier if it's gradual rather than done in one fell swoop. Definately don't quit your day job till you find the right place, however :)
I'd also recommend trying to network outside your company to find people who have successfully made this transition in the past and see if they can offer you some pointers. This person could easily become a mentor as well.. and you can never have too many great mentors.
